As you’ve probably noticed there aren’t many dress patterns on the web, at least that’s what I’ve found, so I decided to make my own. Actually, I wasn’t trying to make a dress but a bustier top. As I was working it I thought: well, my body is a bit out of shape, how am I going to wear this?? I should have cut down those French fries the last time 😀 Oh, well…
All of a sudden I was crocheting and crocheting and couldn’t stop. A slap on the wrist would be nice from time to time, don’t you agree? So, my bustier became a dress that I was pretty proud of, considering I’ve learned to crochet less than a year or so, and I started to create my own patterns pretty soon after, although it was a bit of a challenge, a little scary too.
I will show you more of my designs but it’s sort of drag because I’m pretty lazy at writing patterns. I usually write them down on paper in a very cryptic form (he he) and sometimes even I don’t understand what I write.
Steps to make the dress if you’re interested:
I used cotton and a 5mm hook.
I measured my breast in the widest part and chained accordingly.
Row 1: Ch 27, Sc in every ch except the first. Turn.
Row 2: Ch1 (first Sc), continue with Sc for 7 cm (or how much it’s needed) until you reach the widest part of the breast. Work only half of the stitches, turn.
Next rows work only that half with Sc until you get an L shaped piece. Join the two legs of the “L” with slip stitch on the wrong side. Now you have the first cup.
Work 2 rounds of Sc around the cup with 3 Sc in the corners of the triangle.
Next round: start on the side that comes between the breasts of the cup * Ch3, sk1 st, 1Sc; Repeat from * until you complete that side, work Sc on the exterior of the cup and the base.
Next round: Slip st in the first ch3 space, ch3 (counts as first Dc) 6Dc, Sc in the next ch3 sp, 7 Dc in the next space, Sc in the next ch3 space, 7 Dc in the next space until the end of the Ch3 spaces, work the other two sides Sc. Fasten off. You will have something like this:
Work the second cup mirrored. Add straps to each cup (work a chain with the desired length, Sc in each chain.). Join the two cups and work Sc in the round increasing for how many times you need to fit your figure.
At the bottom of the dress I’ve added some crochet motifs that I’ve found here .
I hope it makes sense 🙂
