One purse a day keeps the boredom away

It is quite a challenge of what to make next from lots and lots of leftover yarn so I thought I should make a purse. I had one in mind with flowers that pop so I got down to business 🙂

I’ve always loved the look of puff stitch flowers so I made 17 puff stitch granny squares.

This is the pattern for the puff stitch granny square:

Start with a slip knot, ch 4, join to form a ring. Ch 1, 12 Sc in the ring, Sl St to join. Ch 3, (YO, go into the same st, pull yarn through) 3x (make sure to pull up the loops so that they are bigger than usual to form the petals right); go into the next stitch , (YO, pull up a loop) 3x, YO, pull through ALL 13 loops on hook, Ch 4, Sl St into the same stitch, Sl St into the next stitch to the left, Ch 3. Repeat until the end (You’ll have 6 petals). Sl St to the back of the flower, Ch 4, Sl St (one petal and a half over) behind a petal post 4 times, (remember, you are now working on the back of the flower :D). You will now have 4 ch 4 chains on the back.

It’s time to change color for the granny square or leave it the same, it’s up to you.

Sl St into the first Ch 4 space, (Ch 2, 3 Hdc, Ch 2, 4 Hdc) in the same Ch 4 sp (first corner).; 4 Hdc , Ch 2, 4 Hdc (second corner) into the next Ch 4 space; 4 Hdc, Ch 2, 4 Hdc (third corner) into the next Ch 4 sp.; 4 Hdc, Ch 2, 4 Hdc into the last Ch 4 space  (fourth corner). Join with Sl St into the top of Ch 2 at the beginning of the round.

R2: Ch 2, Hdc in each  Hdc with 1 Hdc, Ch 2, 1 Hdc in the corners.

R3: Ch 2, Hdc in each Hdc with (1 Hdc, ch2, 1 Hdc) in each corner. Join with slip stitch, cut yarn.

Make 17 granny squares. Join the squares to form the purse, make 2 handles (I used foundation Hdc for the handles). Sew them on, add fabric on the inside for sturdiness and that’s it.  The most annoying part for me  is when I have to sew on the fabric (yuck :D). I hope it’s easy to follow, enjoy 🙂
